OUR STORY
The town of Antelope Oregon has an interesting history, filled with drama. So it should be no suprise to hear that the little cafe has seen its fair share of it as well. I currently am seeking more information to build a more complete and accurate story, but for now here is what I can share:
The Antelope Cafe
At one time the property was owned by the Rajneesh, a group of religious radicals that spawned out of India in the 1980's. The group changed the name of the Cafe to "Zorba The Buddha." During that time the Cafe offered a vegetarian menu. Their ownership of the Cafe and presence in the area didn't last, but the damage had been done. After the bank took over all the Rajneesh assets, the name and menu returned and the various owners operated a campground, store, Cafe, single gas pump, and RV park. The menu featured lamb dishes and offered pies made with local berries. During the economic collapse in 2008 the property took a hit, the regulations changed and the gas pump was no longer legal to use. The ownership changed and the property required more money than it was making to put things right. It wasn't long before the bank found themselves in possesion of the property. There were some attempts to get the property operating again after foreclosure, but for one reason or another they had fallen short of success. It is my understanding that the Cafe has been closed since some time in 2012. Today the Cafe building sits unused, and though there are residents in the RV park, the property is in a state of disrepair and has some concerning issues.

THE PLAN
Here is a plan that should turn some heads.
The property has a lot of work to be done before it can operate again but I am up to the task. On top of the obvious work that will be required to re-open the business, here are some of my plans to improve the business to attract new customers:
In the begining the cafe will remain closed, a general store will open in its place. I believe that the building can serve the community better that way. The general store will have a Bakery/Deli so you will still be able to get food made to order breakfast, lunch and dinner. Some time in the future I plan to remodel the Cafe building to allow the restaurant to open and operate seperately.
The RV park will remain, however it has major infrastructure problems. Along with the correction of the issues, I plan to rearrange the layout to create a more user friendly park.
The campground will evolve too. Camping in Antelope has an attraction of its own, now I hope to make it a little cooler. If you haven't heard of "glamping" you may be suprised when I say we will offer a luxury camping package.
The gas pump has been located in front of the cafe building and is set to be removed. If the state Fire Marshall allows me to operate a gas station in Antelope it will not be in its current location, for obvious reasons. If it can happen I hope to offer Gasoline, Diesel, and Propane.
In the past the Cafe has held occasional events and I intend to continue this tradition. If you know someone in the entertainment business have them get a hold of me because I plan to have regular events with local talent, Musicians, Comedians, and other performing artists, as well as festivals, theme parties, tours, poker runs, tasting events and movie nights. There will always be something happening.
